Seeing only the linear sequence of things, not the network of causal relationships between them. Only knowing "what comes first and what comes after," unable to see "why."

Alias 4: One-Sided Thinking β€” seeing only one side, not the other

Unable to simultaneously see both sides of things β€” positive and negative energy, the cycle of cause and effect. Draws conclusions from seeing only one side. Right and wrong are cut in one stroke. "The unity of opposites" is incomprehensible to them.

Alias 5: Instinct Thinking β€” driven by instinct, no autonomous consciousness

The driving force of action is mainly physiological instinct β€” hungry, eat; thirsty, drink; desire stirs, follow it; cold comes, avoid it. The only difference from animals is the form of the carrier; in essence, instinct governs behavior.

III. The Three Major Manifestations of Material Thinking

Manifestation 1: "Pessimism, disappointment, anxiety, grumbling, jealousy."

All day thinking about eating, drinking, playing, pleasure, building a nest, fame, grabbing money, grabbing power, living better than others β€” but these desires keep rising with the tide and can never be satisfied. So they manifest pessimism, disappointment, anxiety, grumbling, jealousy. They spend their lives stumbling about in confusion and struggle, like dumplings in a pot of boiling water β€” constantly churning β€” never stopping to think what special meaning might be hidden behind these surface phenomena.

Manifestation 2: "Stealing, deceiving, robbing, swindling, cheating, hoodwinking, abducting, bullying, oppressing, raping, killing."

To satisfy their low-level physiological desires, yet unwilling to obtain things through legitimate labor channels β€” or because of unfair social distribution mechanisms β€” they begin stealing, deceiving, robbing, swindling, cheating, hoodwinking, abducting, bullying, oppressing, raping, killing. The law of the jungle of the animal world, operating through and through. Manifestation 3: "Incitement, instigation, aggression, plunder, occupation, uprising, war."

When comprehensive desires are too great, yet the skills of cheating, swindling, robbing, bullying, and the rest are too poor β€” or they feel these moves are too small β€” what to do? How to take what belongs to others? Through false morality, false justice, false democracy to incite and instigate; resort to violence; then take advantage of the chaos for personal gain. Or directly lead a group of people β€” even use the force of a nation β€” to expand outward, occupy others' mountains and rivers, plunder others' property, regardless of the suffering of living beings, the shattered landscape.

IV. The Three Deep Roots of Material Thinking's Formation

The formation of Material Thinking is not accidental; it has deep roots in LIFE structure history.

First: They have just emerged from the animal world in their previous lives, have not received timely civilized education. The information of animal inheritance is still firmly latent in their genes, so they consider this way of acting to be natural and right.

Second: They have seen too much of the animal world, have understood the development history of humanity, and the ideas of evolutionary theory have entered deep into their hearts. So they conclude: people eat people. "Heaven will destroy those who do not serve themselves," "the victor is king, the loser is a bandit," "natural selection, the strong survive." A person's life is about finding ways to accumulate money and power β€” everything else is secondary.

Third: Strong in body, simple in mind. They look around and find that apart from the visible material world, everything else β€” God, spirits and Buddhas, karmic retribution β€” is all nonsense. They are firm atheists, thoroughgoing materialists, committed utilitarians and pragmatists. The surface phenomena of the material world are real; existence determines their mode of thinking and all their conscious activities. The mode of Material Thinking determines their psychological activities and behavioral patterns, directly resulting in their worldview and outlook on life. Their life can only be this way.

V. The Danger of Material Thinkers: Simple-Minded, but Enormously Destructive

Although they are simple-minded, their destructive capacity for human society is enormous, and they are devastating to civilized society. This thinking is the principal culprit of the suffering of human life. The only way is education. Therefore, humanity's principal work should first be placed on the education of people with Material Thinking. If this problem is not solved, humanity will never have peaceful and happy days, and will always harbor the latent danger of total destruction.

As for themselves: not only will they never have happiness β€” most importantly, their LIFE cannot be elevated. They can only go to the lower realms of LIFE to eat the bitter fruit of what they themselves have sown.

It should be said that people with Material Thinking are most pitiable, most deserving of sympathy β€” but at the same time, most stubborn and most dangerous.

We must be clear: such people do not come only from the illiterate community, or from the working people at the bottom of society. Some scholars, professors, scientists, political leaders, and wealthy people also belong to the category of Material Thinkers. The difficulty lies in educating them.

In sum: Material Thinking is the simplest and most practical thinking. It is the lowest thinking in human thinking.

VI. Material Thinking and "Existence Determines Consciousness": The Cosmological Foundation of Material Thinking
