Complete Independent Consciousness · Friendly Edition¶
Are Your Thoughts Really Yours?¶
This is worth asking seriously.
Many of the decisions we make every day aren't really "ours" — they are our parents' voices, our friends' expectations, public pressure, an authority figure's verdict, doing the deciding for us. When trouble comes, the first instinct is to ask someone else. When we feel unsettled, we need someone to say "you're fine" before we can relax. One sentence from another person can make us happy for a day — or miserable for a night.
This is the state of lacking independent consciousness.
What Is Complete Independent Consciousness?¶
Xue Feng offers a precise definition:
"Complete Independent Consciousness means that one's view of human life, values, view of LIFE, and cosmology all accord with the Way of the Greatest Creator — and on that foundation, one can handle all affairs of the human journey with ease, without being swayed or influenced by the consciousness of others."
Notice the two key words: complete and independent.
Independent means having your own judgment on everything — not being swayed by other people's words, emotions, authority, or immediate interests.
Complete means that judgment has roots — grounded in a thorough understanding of the cosmos, LIFE, and the Dao, not simply in personality or stubbornness.
It Is Not the Same as Stubbornness¶
This distinction matters.
"Stubbornness, going one's own way, rigid inflexibility, and clinging to dogma are not expressions of Complete Independent Consciousness."
A person can be very stubborn without having Complete Independent Consciousness. Independent consciousness without cosmological grounding is dangerous — "prone to going to extremes, blind, and harmful, because it can very easily lead one to become autocratic and dictatorial."
True Complete Independent Consciousness is a tree with deep roots — not rootless defiance.
What Happens Without It?¶
"Contradiction, conflict, worry, suffering, anxiety, and sorrow mostly arise from consciousness that is incomplete and not independent."
Without Complete Independent Consciousness: - Every difficulty leaves you torn, unable to decide - You are easily led astray by others' words, potentially onto the wrong path - The stronger your dependence on the outside world, the more passive you become — the more you become a slave to others' consciousness - Your original nature (tathata) is submerged; not only is becoming a celestial or buddha impossible, even being a good human becomes difficult
Xue Feng uses a blunt analogy: the difference between a slave and a slave-owner is that the slave has no Complete Independent Consciousness, while the slave-owner has a relatively complete and independent one. To live by others' consciousness is to be a slave to their thinking.
The Core Mechanism: An Inner Standard¶
Independent consciousness is not "I don't listen to anyone." It is: "I have a clear standard inside me, and I can measure anything against it."
"Independent Consciousness means having a clear standard within one's own consciousness — using this standard to make accurate, independent judgments about complex and changing phenomena, without being swayed by others' words, without being swayed by immediate interests, without being swayed by emotion, without being swayed by authority."
The four things that must not sway you: words, interests, emotion, authority.
Lifechanyuan's reference system: Revere the Greatest Creator. Revere LIFE. Revere nature. Walk the Way of the Greatest Creator.
With this inner standard, when someone announces that Jesus has returned, or Maitreya has descended, or a channeler has brought new divine instructions — you can evaluate it calmly, independently, without being swept away.
How to Cultivate It: Eight Courses¶
Xue Feng is explicit: Complete Independent Consciousness cannot be cultivated without completing eight foundational studies:
- Understand the origins of the cosmos, LIFE, and humanity — and the direction of their movement and change
- Understand the value and meaning of human life — and the principles and evolutionary program of LIFE
- Understand the Dao's characteristics and operating mechanisms — including the law of cause and effect, the law that the sum of positive and negative energy equals zero, and other cosmic laws
- Know the main content of the Way of the Greatest Creator
- Understand the meaning and mysteries of space — especially the twenty parallel worlds and the thirty-six-dimensional space
- Understand what antimatter is — what belongs to the antimatter realm, the value and function of antimatter, and the antimatter world
- Understand your own current situation and the direction of future effort
- Survey human society from above — understand the operating mechanisms of human society and their advantages and disadvantages
"Without completing these eight courses, it is impossible for a person to cultivate Complete Independent Consciousness."
Once completed: "The vast world is no longer bewilderingly complex. The human journey is no longer confused and difficult. The road of LIFE no longer cycles in endless reincarnation."
Where Does It Lead?¶
Complete Independent Consciousness is the key to moving from the Kingdom of Necessity into the Kingdom of Freedom.
"I hope everyone will work hard to cultivate and as soon as possible form their own Complete Independent Consciousness — to break free from the bondage, shackles, and control of others' consciousness, and move from the Kingdom of Necessity into the Kingdom of Freedom."
When someone truly reaches this state, they no longer need any external authority — including the Guide himself:
"Every Chanyuan Celestial who has fully understood the content of Lifechanyuan now stands at the peak of human wisdom. No one can guide you anymore… Even I, the Guide, will no longer influence or sway your consciousness, because we have gradually become the same — resonating at the same frequency, in harmony — the problem of mutual influence no longer exists… Because ultimately we are equal, and mutually independent."
This is the endpoint of cultivation: depending on no one, facing the Greatest Creator directly, in complete Self-Coherence.
