Free Will: Why You Suffer β and How You Can Be Free¶
In Lifechanyuan terminology, LIFE (capitalized) refers to the ontological essence of existence β the soul/antimatter structure that persists across incarnations β while life (lowercase) refers to the experiential stage of human existence in this world.
Have you ever wondered why most of human suffering β worry, pain, anxiety, fear β seems to come from the same place?
Lifechanyuan gives a precise and startling answer: it comes from your free will.
What Is Free Will?¶
Free will is that force within you that refuses to simply go along with whatever comes.
You go to a shop and browse β that's free will.
Someone you care about ignores you, and you feel hurt β free will again.
You believe you're right, but others insist you do things their way β that resistance you feel inside β free will.
If a human being had no free will, they would be nothing but a biological robot β incapable of making a single choice.
The Greatest Creator gave every LIFE a degree of free will by design β without free will, the universe would grow dull and meaningless, and LIFE would lose its purpose.
Why Is Free Will the Source of Both Joy and Suffering?¶
The universe is a grand script. Your life role β roughly speaking β has already been set: the people you'll meet, the events you'll encounter, the broad arc of your life. This is the "fixed" part of the script.
But within this grand script, free will is a real and living variable.
Joy and suffering don't come from the role you've been assigned. They come from whether your free will aligns with what the script has arranged:
- The script says you're a mouse; your free will insists you should be an elephant β suffering
- You're supposed to grow vegetables; you want to build spacecraft β frustration
- You're supposed to serve someone; you want them to serve you β conflict
Whenever free will conflicts with the script's arrangement, doubt, worry, pain, anxiety, fear, and sorrow begin.
Conversely, when free will aligns with the script, the heart becomes peaceful, joyful, happy, and blissful β and you feel free.
Whether You Go to Heaven or to Hell Has Nothing to Do with the Role You Play¶
This is one of Lifechanyuan's most stunning revelations:
Whether you go to Heaven or to Hell has nothing to do with what role you play. It is entirely determined by whether you play your role well.
Take the fascist leader Hitler. From a human moral standpoint, he should go to Hell β but from the perspective of the cosmic script, if he played his assigned role brilliantly, he would actually go to Heaven.
Whether you play an emperor or a thief, if you play it well, you are rewarded with Heaven. If you play it poorly, you are sent to the lower realms.
A simple test: No matter what role you're playing β suffering or ease, prominent or ordinary β if at any moment you can be at peace, with joy, without worry or fear, full of gratitude β then you are playing your role well. If not, you're not.
Attachment: When Free Will Goes to Extremes¶
Attachment is the extreme expression of free will β and the greatest obstacle to reaching the higher realms.
- The script says go east; you insist on going west
- The script says rest; you insist on working
- The script says let go; you grip tighter
People who are strongly attached find life difficult, chaotic, and full of bad endings. This is why the Buddha taught: "Eliminate the clinging to self."
How to Use Free Will Correctly¶
Free will is given by the Greatest Creator. It shouldn't be suppressed β but it must be used wisely.
The one true path: Walk the Way of the Greatest Creator; align your free will with the Dao's program and the laws of Heaven β not in opposition to them. Play every role wholeheartedly. Whatever you do, do it fully. Step by step in harmony, heart in resonance.
Two practical paths:
One: Attain the highest wisdom β understand the whole script. Then you can play your part faithfully while also watching your own performance from outside the script. The same suffering feels different: to the confused person, it is agony; to the wise person, it is an interesting game.
Two: Walk the Way of the Greatest Creator, act according to your inner nature β accept all of the Greatest Creator's arrangements for you with a joyful heart, even hardship and pain. When facing difficult choices, listen to your inner call, act according to spiritual perception, and do not use your own intellect to override the prompting of your heart.
The highest state: "Do as one wishes without transgressing the Dao β free and at ease, without any distortion."
The Forbidden Zone: Do Not Self-Direct, Self-Script, Self-Produce¶
There is one path you must never walk β using your own will to control everything, writing your own script, directing it yourself, playing all the roles yourself.
The only result: deviation in practice β from which there may be no return.
Why? Because self-directing is a kind of self-admiring isolation β and isolation only has meaning because there is an outside world. Once you truly controlled everything, you would be unbearably lonely. (Try controlling both hands to play chess against yourself.)
Always remember Lifechanyuan's core creed: awe of the Greatest Creator, awe of LIFE, awe of Nature, walk the Way of the Greatest Creator.
Be humble, ever humble. Do not harbor wishful thinking. Heaven's net is vast; divine eyes are like lightning. Take great care!
The Layers of Freedom: The Higher the LIFE, the Greater the Freedom¶
Free will's full expression is directly proportional to LIFE's level:
- A pig has less freedom than a human
- A human has less freedom than a Celestial Being or Buddha
- A Celestial Being or Buddha has less freedom than a divine being
"Freedom is supreme, freedom is priceless; freedom is the characteristic of LIFE in Heaven. The greater one's freedom, the closer to Heaven; the less freedom, the closer to Hell."
"Freedom symbolizes Heaven; control means Hell."
The direction of practice is to make your free will ever purer and broader, until it finds its ultimate liberation in the Celestial Islands Continent of the Elysium World.
One Sentence to Remember¶
Your joy and suffering don't come from what role life has assigned you β they come from whether your free will aligns with the script. Tune your will into harmony with the Dao, accept what comes, act according to your inner nature β and you will draw closer to Heaven with every step.
