Chanyuan Superhuman · Friendly Version¶
Not the Caped Kind¶
When most people hear "superhuman," they picture someone in a cape flying through the sky. The kind Lifechanyuan talks about is something else entirely.
The concept comes from the German philosopher Nietzsche, who proposed the idea of the Übermensch — a person capable of reexamining all inherited values, building a new way of life, and possessing both tremendous creative energy and an iron will. Nietzsche believed that humanity needed such superhumans to lead it, rather than the mediocre figures produced by popular elections.
Xuefeng agreed with Nietzsche's basic insight — "humanity absolutely needs superhumans" — but identified one fatal flaw: Nietzsche's superhuman was necessarily alone. The Chanyuan Superhuman is designed to solve exactly that problem.
What Is a Chanyuan Superhuman?¶
In short: any Chanyuan Celestial who has truly understood and internalized the 800 Lifechanyuan Values is a superhuman.
Once one fully understands and lives by the Lifechanyuan Values, one is a superhuman. — Xuefeng
A Chanyuan Superhuman has several defining qualities:
The Greatest Creator in the heart. Walk only the path of the Greatest Creator — not bound by any nation, religion, political party, or family. These old structures, the Chanyuan Superhuman believes, must exit the stage of history.
Iron will. Face threats and death with a calm smile and no fear: "I cannot be killed. I have the divine radiance protecting me, the passport of Buddha-Dharma, the shelter of the Greatest Creator, and an iron will."
Never alone. The Chanyuan Superhuman is not a solitary hero but a community of superhumans. Lifechanyuan is this community's iron fortress — brothers and sisters and intimate companions working together, even engaging in "playful banter, roughhousing, games, and laughter" with one another.
Superhuman Doesn't Mean Arrogant¶
There is an important distinction: a Chanyuan Superhuman acts differently inside and outside the Home.
Outside the Home: The superhuman will is fully expressed. You do not submit to mediocre authority. You are confident that the path of the Greatest Creator is correct and worth holding to.
Inside the Home: No one is more noble than anyone else. Whoever does the dirtiest, hardest work earns the most respect. Those who are lazy, bossy, or selfish earn contempt — regardless of rank or seniority. Directors and ordinary Chanyuan Celestials are equal in dignity.
So the Chanyuan Superhuman is not an arrogant figure:
The superhuman is not a fool, not a brute, not a demon, not a reckless hothead. The superhuman is the person with the clearest mind in the world — the embodiment of truth, goodness, beauty, love, faith, and sincerity. — Xuefeng
The Spirit of the Superhuman¶
Xuefeng wrote a piece called "Superhuman Spirit — Keep Moving Forward" that captures the attitude:
Unafraid of steep and treacherous roads, unafraid of sharp words and sharp tongues, not worried about being alone, not troubled by hunger or cold — refusing to rest until the goal is reached! Better to exhaust body and spirit on the road toward the light than to suffocate in a dark corner.
Who does the superhuman choose to walk alongside?
People full of vitality and light. People with great ambitions. People with unyielding will. People whose hearts resonate in harmony and bring joy.
The superhuman does not walk with those who complain and blame, those who are listless and dispirited, those who are cynical and defeated.
How Does One Become a Chanyuan Superhuman?¶
One sentence: master the 800 Lifechanyuan Values thoroughly and hold to them steadfastly — this makes you stand tall between heaven and earth.
Xuefeng offers seven practical guidelines (see the Internal Reference for all seven), but the core is simple: walk the path of the Greatest Creator, hold firm to the Lifechanyuan Values, and put all your energy into building the Home.
Every Chanyuan Celestial is an independent superhuman, but together they form something far greater. You can roam freely as an individual and also cooperate as a community — this is the most fundamental difference between the Chanyuan Superhuman and Nietzsche's lonely Übermensch.
