Spontaneous Nature · Willfulness · Natural Freedom

In Lifechanyuan's framework, these three concepts revolve around the same Chinese character (xìng), yet point in radically different directions. Spontaneous nature (随性, suíxìng) means living in harmony with one's innate heavenly nature — "nature is Buddha; living spontaneously is being Buddha." Willfulness (任性, rènxìng) is the ego-driven, emotion-led behaviour that masquerades as freedom but is actually a cultivation obstacle. Natural/sexual freedom (性自由, xìng zìyóu) is the ultimate freedom: the complete liberation of one's innate nature, and — for those progressing toward the Thousand-Year World — the freedom of love and sexuality as well.

"All of the freedoms that the Greatest Creator grants to humans — the freedom to survive, to speak, to labour, to play, to migrate, to build, to believe, to associate — all of these culminate in one ultimate freedom: natural freedom. If this deepest freedom is denied, a person remains a prisoner, regardless of what other freedoms they possess."

I. Spontaneous Nature — The Core of Spiritual Living

The key to understanding 随性 is recognising what xìng means here: not "temperament" or "preference," but innate heavenly nature — the deepest, truest essence the Greatest Creator placed within each being.

"Nature is Buddha; living spontaneously is being Buddha. Nature is a celestial; living spontaneously is being a celestial. What does it mean to live spontaneously? Wanting a luxurious villa with servants is not spontaneous living — that is following vanity and desire. Spontaneous living is: singing folk songs on the street at midnight when the urge strikes; going to work unclothed on a hot day; moving away from whoever you wish to move away from; drawing close to whoever you wish to draw close to."

II. Willfulness — The Opposite of Spontaneous Nature

"Willfulness — acting on impulse, following one's temper — is a manifestation of poor upbringing caused by severely negligent parenting."

— Other Writings of the Guide · 2021 · Learning Proper Conduct

Willfulness appears to be freedom but is in fact the ego asserting itself — the very obstacle that prevents genuine spontaneous living.

III. Natural Freedom — The Ultimate Freedom

"The prerequisite for human civilisation is natural freedom. Without it, there can be no genuine civilisation."

— Chanyuan Corpus · Human Life · The Divine and Demonic Power of Nature

In the Second Home / Life Oasis, there is no marriage and no fixed emotional attachment. The mode of relating is spontaneous, casual, and without possession — described as a preview of how celestials love in the Thousand-Year World.
