Debt Repayment

Debt repayment is one of the foundational imperatives in Lifechanyuan's cosmology and practice: human beings enter the material world precisely because they carry karmic debts accumulated over multiple lifetimes. Life in the human realm is, at its core, a process of settling those debts. Debts left unpaid mean continued reincarnation; debts allowed to multiply mean a descent to even lower planes of existence.

"A human life is a life of repaying debts. As long as those debts remain unsettled, we cannot leave this world."

— Xuefeng (Chanyuan Corpus · Wisdom · Enemies Are Benefactors — The Way of Debt Repayment)

Debts can be repaid in multiple ways: through direct acts of giving to those one owes; through the passive endurance of hardship and tribulation (which the Tao arranges specifically for this purpose); or through merit-building and selfless giving, which can offset debts indirectly. Most strikingly: those who harm us are our most efficient debt collectors — they bear the karmic cost of harming us, while we receive credit toward our outstanding balance. Participation in Lifechanyuan's Second Home is considered the lightest and most complete path of repayment available.
