Abstract¶

"Contribute by ability, take by need" (gè jǐn suǒ néng, àn xū suǒ qǔ) is the core principle governing production and distribution within the Lifechanyuan system, constituting the third of the Eight Characteristics of the Second Home (Life Oasis). The principle rests on the ownership concept of wuyouzhi — a "non-ownership system" distinct from both private ownership and public ownership — under which members contribute according to genuine capacity without compulsion and take what they need without rationing, bounded only by the ethic of non-extravagance and non-waste. Guide Xuefeng designates this as the operating core of the "paradise-model economy," identifies it as a direct replication of the Thousand-Year World's celestial life patterns, and projects it as the economic foundation of Civilization 3.0. The principle is simultaneously an economic organizing rule and a spiritual benchmark: one's capacity to embrace it signals one's position on the continuum from "ordinary person" through "worthy person" to "celestial."

This contrasts with Marxist "distribution according to labor," which typically requires a quantified evaluation of labor output. In the Lifechanyuan model, the standard is the sincere exercise of one's own capacity. The goal is for labor to feel intrinsically rewarding — "almost like a game" — rather than instrumental.

III. The "Take" Dimension: Need Without Rationing¶

Two defining boundaries shape "take by need":

Positive scope: Full satisfaction of genuine personal need — including what might seem excessive by conventional standards — with no distribution authority required.

Limiting principle: Non-extravagance and non-waste. The constraint is internal (character-based) rather than external (rule-based). There is no ration, quota, or approval process.

This differs sharply from orthodox communist theory, which treats material abundance as the prerequisite for need-based distribution. Lifechanyuan's position is the inverse: heart purification, not material abundance, is the real prerequisite. A purified person will not over-take; an unpurified person cannot safely be given free access.

IV. The Non-Ownership System (Wuyouzhi): Third Ownership Path¶

Guide Xuefeng introduces wuyouzhi as a third form of ownership beyond the familiar binary:

The way of the Greatest Creator is not private ownership, nor public ownership, but wuyouzhi — resources shared by all, owned by none; taken by need, accumulated by none. (New Era 800 Concepts, 4th ed., Concept 536)

This hierarchy means that ownership preference is not merely a social-political preference but a diagnostic of spiritual level: the willingness to embrace wuyouzhi indicates that one has genuinely released possessiveness and self-centeredness.

In this global projection, the principle scales from a community-level operating rule to the organizing logic of an entire planetary civilization — one enabled by AI coordination in place of state governance and market price signals.

VIII. Critical Prerequisite: The Priority of Heart Purification¶

Guide Xuefeng is direct about the precondition:

The greatest difficulty of the paradise-model economy is not insufficient material abundance — it is the difficulty of purifying people's hearts. Without people whose hearts are pure, morally upright, selfless, and egoless, this model will breed laziness and a failure to strive. (Guide's Other Writings · 2023)

This accounts for the stringent stance toward laziness in the Second Home: a lazy person is not merely unproductive — they are evidence of incomplete heart purification, and their presence undermines the entire operating logic of the community.
