Rejuvenation · Eternal Youth — Internal Version¶
This version collects the core source quotations from the Lifechanyuan corpus on "rejuvenation, eternal youth, and longevity," organized by theme for deep study.
I. Lifechanyuan's Foundational Position: Spirit-Body Eternal; Physical Body Finite¶
"Lifechanyuan's view holds that humans were created by the Greatest Creator, and human lifespans have their appointed number. For people to pursue physical immortality runs contrary to the will of the Greatest Creator, because the most just thing in the human world is physical death — only in the face of death are all people equal… Human life is finite; pursuing infinite human life is like climbing a tree to catch fish. The only thing we can do is not pursue the physical body's immortal life, but live this finite life well, vividly, fully, richly, without regret or sorrow."
— Xuefeng, Lifechanyuan's View on Rejuvenation, Eternal Youth, and Immortality (2013/7/21)
"Chanyuan Celestials do not pursue the immortality of the physical body — we pursue the eternal existence of the spirit-body. We do not spend our time, energy, or money on the physical body; instead we devote the precious limited time of life to the spirit-body, because the physical body cannot reach the celestial realm — only the spirit-body can reach the celestial realm… Our ideal is for every person to live without illness, calamity, or pain to age 120, and after 120 to use the method of leaving the ordinary bones through meditation to release the vehicle of life — the physical body — and joyfully cross to the far shore, proceeding to the Thousand-Year World, or the Ten-Thousand-Year World, or the celestial archipelago of the Elysium World."
— Xuefeng, Lifechanyuan's View on Rejuvenation, Eternal Youth, and Immortality (2013/7/21)
"In the human world, the goal I want to help Chanyuan Celestials reach is: make love until a hundred; live until a hundred and twenty."
— Xuefeng, Lifechanyuan's View on Rejuvenation, Eternal Youth, and Immortality (2013/7/21)
II. The Three Sages' Teachings: Return to Infancy as Cultivation Direction¶
"Jesus Christ, who saves our souls, warns us: 'Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.'
The Buddha Shakyamuni admonishes us: if you still have the 'notion of a life span,' you cannot become a bodhisattva.
The Immortal Laozi guides us to 'return to the root,' to 'return to the infant state,' to 'when things reach their vigorous prime, they age — this is contrary to the Tao.'
…Where do we cultivate and practice? Answer: return to youth, return to the infant state."
— Xuefeng, The First Step of Rejuvenation (Wisdom Chapter, No. 68)
III. The First Step of Rejuvenation: Simplicity, Truthfulness, Following One's Nature, Naturalness (Extended Quotation)¶
"If we were fortunate enough to visit the Thousand-Year World of the celestial realm, we would find that nearly every celestial being looks like a child: their innate nature is purely beautiful, their playfulness does not diminish their supreme goodness, their mischief does not diminish their authenticity, their high intelligence does not diminish their simplicity, their ease does not diminish their loving tenderness.
The famous saying of the Wudang True Person Zhang Sanfeng is: 'Follow the flow and you are ordinary; reverse the flow and you are celestial — it is all in this reversal and re-reversal.'
…Please note: 'rejuvenation' does not mean making our physical bodies look like small children again. It means the spirit-body of our life returns to the mental state of a small child — not being bound by the 'notion of a life span,' not thinking that because you are forty or fifty you cannot play, cannot cry, cannot throw a child's tantrum.
The first step of rejuvenation is to strive for simplicity, truthfulness, following one's nature, and naturalness."
— Xuefeng, The First Step of Rejuvenation (Wisdom Chapter, No. 68)
"Who isn't afraid of wild lions and tigers? But what about a small lion cub? Would you be afraid? …Because the small lion is simple. Have you heard the wolfchild story? …Why could a baby be raised by wolves? Because the baby is simple, and you are no longer simple."
"A child sees someone eating an apple and immediately calls out: 'Mama! Mama! I want an apple too!' But adults, even with mouths watering, put on a face of complete indifference… Because the child is truthful, and the adult is hypocritical."
"Whenever what is in your heart, what comes out of your mouth, and what you do in behavior are inconsistent — you are not truthful."
"It snows, and little Maomao plays joyfully in the snow with neighbor Jiajia, reaching out to touch Jiajia's rosy cheeks, two innocent children… This is the difference between following one's nature and suppressing it. Children act according to their nature; adults have long been so constrained by human moral codes that they dare not act according to their nature."
"No matter how distinguished a guest has come to visit, a tired child simply falls asleep — very naturally. Adults, eyes unable to stay open, still insist: 'Not tired! Not tired!' — completely unnatural."
— Xuefeng, The First Step of Rejuvenation (Wisdom Chapter, No. 68)
IV. Child's Heart and the Celestial Realm: Living Water and Dead Water¶
"A pond with a constant inflow of fresh water that also flows out from the other end — this pond will never dry up and will stay fresh. Without living water flowing in, or without an outflow channel, the water will gradually turn foul, or will accumulate and finally flood. Childhood is like the fresh-flowing pond — in and out, clear and alive. Middle and old age is like the gradually fouling stagnant pond. Therefore, preserving the innate nature of simplicity, truthfulness, following one's nature, and naturalness will keep us permanently connected to the source of living water. If we cling to old ideas and refuse to accept new ones, it is as if no living water is being poured in — life gradually shrivels up, and returning to youth becomes increasingly difficult."
"Say what you think; speak as your heart speaks; say what you mean — such a person has the heart of a child, is a lovable person, is a person who can easily go to the celestial realm. If a person has deep calculation, scans every angle, listens for every signal, is wrapped in fog and mist, never lets slip a single careless word — such a person is very frightening; it is very hard to know what is really in their heart. This person is a 'human expert,' but has no connection with the celestial realm."
— Xuefeng, The First Step of Rejuvenation (Wisdom Chapter, No. 68)
V. Eight Pathways to Eternal Youth (Complete Source Text)¶
"I know the secret of how to make youth endure eternally. Here I point out the pathways for everyone. If you can do these, you will not only have eternal youth — you can also rejuvenate, or 'rejuvenate and then re-age' — you can change at will.
- Keep consciousness in the empty-luminous state
- Achieve total non-possession
- Enter the no-self state
- Live within sexuality
- Rise with the sun, rest with the sun — maintain regular rhythms
- Walk strictly according to the guide's route map
- Only gratitude; no resentment
- No desire, no seeking; follow the Tao without fail
Without desire is true desire; without self is true self; without selfishness is true selflessness; without seeking is true seeking; without nothingness is true having — this is absolute truth."
— Xuefeng, Climbing Toward the Celestial Realm of Eternal Youth (2013/10/4)
VI. Time-Space Relativity and Longevity — The Road Beyond Time and Space¶
"The time in every place and every space is different… The principle of 'one day in heaven equals one year on earth' is real. The way every thing and every person operates is different, so time differs too… Time is not fixed. Time can be long, can be short, can be extended without limit, can be shortened without limit."
"If we live on earth according to convention, death is inevitable in the end. If we do not live according to convention, we can break through the constraints of conventional time-space."
— Xuefeng, The Road Beyond Time and Space (《超时空之路》)
"Lifespan is related to mental state. People in extreme anger accelerate their metabolism and age rapidly — the more often one gets angry, the faster one ages. Similarly, states of selfishness, jealousy, complaint, resentment, anxiety, fear, worry, negativity, and pessimism all accelerate aging. Conversely, states of peace, serenity, joy, happiness, positivity, and optimism slow the pace of aging. Celestial beings and Buddhas have long lives; people have short lives — because their mental states are completely different."
— Xuefeng, The Road Beyond Time and Space
VII. The Second Home as Living Laboratory¶
"One day in heaven equals one year on earth — this is the theory of time-space relativity. Different time-spaces have different metabolisms, different cycles of birth and death for life… When the Second Home is built into the Thousand-Year World model, and Chanyuan Celestials are practicing the consciousness of the Ten-Thousand-Year World and the Elysium archipelago while living in the Thousand-Year World — even while living on earth, the length of life can be greatly extended.
We can observe the Chanyuan Celestials currently living in the Second Home: some have shown essentially no change in these years — their physical and psychological states are basically frozen at the state from several years ago. Some have even grown smaller, reverted to youth. And this is just the beginning.
A common thing I hear from Chanyuan Celestials is: 'Time is passing so fast!' When a person feels time is passing very fast, this is the sign of eternal youth. When you can no longer feel the passage of time — that is eternal youth. If you feel time is passing very slowly, feeling 'a year dragging like a thousand,' your life cycle is rapidly shortening — you are aging rapidly."
— Xuefeng, Climbing Toward the Celestial Realm of Eternal Youth (2013/10/4)
VIII. The Guide's Personal Testimony¶
"Recently, I have been getting up between 4 and 5 every morning… Working has become addictive — working and working without feeling tired. Sometimes I work five continuous hours without exhaustion. The day before last, I got up at 4 in the morning, didn't rest at noon, and besides two meals, I worked until 8 in the evening! Heavens above! Am I undergoing rejuvenation?
Just now, after dinner, I was in our café listening to the song 'Farewell to the Seashore' while swaying my hips. Ehuang said my posture was graceful — like a young fellow. I was so delighted I nearly jumped into Lake Annecy for a swim.
My sleep recently has been wonderful: whether afternoon or evening, I can fall asleep within minutes of my head touching the pillow.
Am I undergoing rejuvenation?"
