Dharma Eye (Friendly Version)

How many eyes does a person have?

We usually think of humans as having just one pair of eyes — physical eyes that see the material world.

But the Buddha taught that eyes are not limited to one pair. Different levels of wisdom open different levels of sight. The Buddha transmitted the teaching of the Five Eyes:

Level Name What It Sees
1st Material Eye Surface phenomena of the material world
2nd Celestial Eye What transcends ordinary vision — across time and space
3rd Wisdom Eye Truth vs. falsehood; seeing through appearances
4th Dharma Eye The operating principles behind all phenomena; discerning right from wrong; the mysteries of LIFE
5th Buddha Eye Complete, perfect wisdom — the Tathagata's realm

Guide Xuefeng conveys the teaching: wisdom has five great levels, ascending from Material Eye wisdom to Buddha Eye wisdom.

What is the Dharma Eye?

The Dharma Eye is the fourth level — the capacity to see through phenomena to the principles operating beneath them.

What can someone with the Dharma Eye do?

Xuefeng says:

"With the Dharma Eye, wisdom bursts forth suddenly — 'all mountains are seen below.' One can discern right from wrong, and comprehend the mysteries of LIFE and the scenery of the Kingdom of Heaven."

In plain terms: - Wisdom bursts forth suddenly: Things that seemed opaque become clear all at once - "All mountains seen below": Standing high, seeing far — not confused by the turbulence at eye level - Discern right from wrong: Tell real spiritual paths from false ones; see through deception and disguise - Comprehend the mysteries of LIFE and Heaven: See where life comes from, where it goes, and what the Kingdom of Heaven truly is

Xuefeng also writes:

"Once you open the Dharma Eye, you stand in the ranks of the highest wisdom throughout all of human history."

"With the Dharma Eye open, plus reverence for the Greatest Creator, concern for all under heaven, and working for the happiness of the suffering — you draw close to the divine."

How to open the Dharma Eye

Xuefeng offers a clear and specific method:

Firmly grasp the Three Elements of the Universe — Consciousness, Structure, and Energy. Once their interrelationship is clarified, the Dharma Eye opens, and you will no longer be confused by any profound doctrine or theory.

What are the Three Elements?

  • Consciousness: The fundamental driving force behind all existence. What you are conscious of, you become; where your consciousness tends, your LIFE moves.
  • Structure: The organizational form of LIFE in the antimatter world. The antimatter structure of a LIFE determines which space it can enter — Thousand-Year World, Ten-Thousand-Year World, Elysium World.
  • Energy: The force that sustains LIFE's structure and movement. Cultivation is, in part, the work of elevating one's energy vibration frequency.

The relationship among the three: consciousness shapes structure; structure carries energy; energy expresses consciousness — a self-consistent mechanism of cosmic operation. With this framework, any religious, philosophical, or scientific question can be examined and evaluated. The Dharma Eye opens when this framework becomes one's natural mode of seeing.

The Dharma Eye in the Cultivation Journey

The Dharma Eye is not the destination — it is a crucial gateway along the path:

  • The person with Material Eyes lives in surface appearances, carried along by the current
  • The person with Celestial Eyes senses existence beyond matter
  • The person with Wisdom Eyes discerns good from evil, truth from falsehood
  • The person with the Dharma Eye sees the operating principles of the cosmos — no longer deceived by any appearance; walking the road of genuine awakening
  • The person with Buddha Eyes is fully transparent, united with the Greatest Creator

Xuefeng writes that after purifying the mind, people find their "Wisdom Eye and Dharma Eye opening — seeing things more penetratingly, able to transcend space-time to perceive the trajectory of history and the future of humanity." This is the mark of the Dharma Eye awakening.
