I. Happiness as an Intrinsic Attribute of the Greatest Creator's Way¶
The Way of the Greatest Creator is the way of happiness
"The Way of the Greatest Creator is vast and profound, its content and extension infinitely rich. It transcends time and space, governs all things in the universe — boundless in its breadth, seamless in its depth — it transforms everything and determines the cosmos. It is the Way of Light, the Way of Creation, the Way of LIFE, the Way of Love, the Way of Freedom, the Way of Happiness, the Way of Wonder, and the Way of Hundun." (800 Values for New Era Humanity, 4th Edition, Value 518)
This is the cosmological foundation of Lifechanyuan's philosophy of happiness: happiness is not a subjective psychological state constructed by human beings but an intrinsic attribute of the cosmic principle — the Way of the Greatest Creator. To walk with the Way is to naturally inhabit happiness; to move against the Way is to court inevitable suffering.
II. Happiness and Love: The Fundamental Connection¶
Love abundance → Beautiful soul → Happiness
"The richer a person's love life, the more beautiful their soul, the gentler their character, the calmer their temperament, the closer they are to the Greatest Creator, the more they understand how to love life, love existence, love nature, and love others. The more impoverished a person's love life, the uglier their soul, the more vicious their character, the more violent their temperament, the further they drift from the Greatest Creator, the less they understand how to live, and the less they love life, nature, and others." (800 Values for New Era Humanity, 4th Edition, Value 584)
The love-based definition of heaven and hell
"The lower the level of LIFE, the more lacking in love. What is hell? A place without love is hell. The higher the level of LIFE, the richer in love. What is heaven? A place full of love is heaven." (800 Values for New Era Humanity, 4th Edition, Value 585)
It follows that heaven is synonymous with happiness, and the essence of heaven is the abundance of love. The path toward happiness begins with opening the heart to genuine love.
III. The Essence of Happiness: Freedom and Unencumbered Being¶
Freedom is the prerequisite of happiness
"Freedom above all else." (800 Values for New Era Humanity, 4th Edition, Value 644)
Lifechanyuan emphasizes repeatedly: without freedom, all happiness is illusory. Marriage institutions, traditional morality, social conventions — these constraints imposed in the name of order are precisely what strip away freedom and strangle happiness. True happiness lives in the state of unencumbered being, following natural affinity, and responding to life as it arrives.
Neither grasping nor calculating — the heart without abiding
Whether one is happy or not does not depend on how much one possesses, but on the state of the heart. Those who cling to gain and loss cannot find happiness even amid vast wealth; those whose heart does not abide in anything, who hold nothing with grasping fingers, find natural ease even in simplicity.
"Follow what arises, transform with conditions, move with authentic nature, act according to the moment." (800 Values for New Era Humanity, 4th Edition, the Four Followings)
These four followings are the daily shape of a happy LIFE.
IV. Obstacles to Happiness: Attachment, Greed, and Jealousy¶
Attachment is the greatest enemy of happiness
Every form of attachment — clinging to a person, an object, an outcome — is a root of suffering. The cultivation philosophy of Lifechanyuan points consistently toward Letting Go: release attachment to people, to things, to fame and gain. Only then does the heart return to freedom, and only then does happiness emerge.
Jealousy is the woodworm of happiness
"Jealousy is one of the ugliest, most base, and most shameless states of mind in humanity. It not only makes oneself miserable, but makes those around one miserable as well." (Xuefeng's Collected Writings · Cultivation Chapter · Jealousy)
The jealous person perceives the happiness of others as a threat to themselves, producing a double suffering: unable to enjoy whatever happiness they themselves might have, while treating the happiness of others as a source of pain.
Greed is the structural opposite of happiness
The greedy person always feels there is not enough. No matter how much they accumulate, the gaze is always toward what has not yet been obtained. Lifechanyuan's philosophy of contentment stands in direct opposition to this:
"The content are happy; the discontent are miserable." (Xuefeng's Collected Writings · Cultivation Chapter, synthesis)
V. The Levels of Happiness: From the Mundane to the Eternal¶
Level One: Material Happiness (the lowest level)
Having enough to eat and drink, a healthy body, a harmonious household — this is what ordinary people seek. It has its value, but within the Lifechanyuan framework it is the most basic level, because it depends on external circumstances. When circumstances change, this happiness disappears.
Level Two: Soul-Freedom Happiness (the practitioner)
The soul is not moved by external circumstances, not bound by others' evaluations, not occupied by past or future. Living in the present, living with ease — this is the practitioner's happiness. It does not depend on external conditions, and is therefore more stable.
Level Three: Happiness of Unity with the Way (higher cultivation)
"The most wondrous way to live is to follow nature; the most wondrous way to act is to transform with conditions; the most wondrous stillness is to be at ease wherever one is; the most wondrous state is unity with the Way." (800 Values for New Era Humanity, 4th Edition, Value 591)
When one is in unity with the Way, happiness is no longer a goal to be pursued — it becomes the state of existence itself.
Level Four: Elysian Bliss — the happiness of Celestials (the highest level)
"The Elysium World is the highest life space in the universe. The lives there enjoy eternal joy, complete freedom, and unconditional love — this is the ultimate destination of all cultivation." (Xuefeng's Collected Writings · Heaven Chapter · Elysium World, synthesis)
Elysian Bliss is happiness in its absolute form — eternal joy that transcends all conditions.
VI. The Second Home: A Rehearsal of Happiness on Earth¶
The Second Home (Life Oasis) is the happiness laboratory that Lifechanyuan has established within the human world — allowing people to live as much as possible in the celestial way of happiness while still in worldly conditions:
- No chains of marriage; love flows freely
- No stark disparity of wealth; material needs met as needed
- No competition or comparison; everyone lives according to their authentic nature
- Hundun management: order and freedom coexist
- Spiritual pursuit takes precedence over material accumulation
"Here, the authentic nature of human beings is honored to the greatest degree, the vitality of LIFE is released to the greatest degree, and happiness therefore becomes an everyday reality rather than a luxury." (Xuefeng's Collected Writings · Second Home Chapter, synthesis)
VII. Happiness and the Ultimate Destination of LIFE¶
Happiness is not merely a feeling — it is a compass for the direction of LIFE.
- Sustained pain, suppression, and hopelessness signal that LIFE has drifted from its proper course and needs to realign.
- A sense of lightness, joy, and vitality signals that LIFE is walking on the path of resonance with the Way of the Greatest Creator.
The ultimate purpose of cultivation and practice is to transform happiness from an occasional experience to a constant state — from happiness contingent on external conditions to absolute joy that depends on nothing whatsoever. This is precisely the mode of existence of the lives in the Elysium World.
