This version examines Osho's positioning within Lifechanyuan's knowledge framework, analyzing the logic of evaluation and the narrative of transcendence.
Abstract¶
Osho (born Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, 1931–1990) was one of the most controversial spiritual teachers of the 20th century. In Lifechanyuan's framework, he occupies a specific and carefully defined position: acknowledged as a "kindred spirit" and "forerunner" whose anti-institutional, freedom-centered teachings resonate with Lifechanyuan's own; included in Lifechanyuan's early recommended readings; yet ultimately subject to critical transcendence. Xuefeng's final verdict is that Osho lacks a "view of LIFE," does not understand LIFE's principles and the nature of time and space, "came only as far as the foot of Snow Peak," and whose meditation methods are not ultimate or final. The path of Lifechanyuan supersedes Osho.

II. Osho's Positioning: The "Kindred Spirit"¶
In 2006, Xuefeng explicitly designated Osho a "kindred spirit" and quoted his teachings at length. The core areas of resonance include:

The same year (2006), Osho's wisdom was listed as one of Lifechanyuan's ten supplementary readings — alongside the Diamond Sutra, the Tao Te Ching, and Conversations with God.
III. The "Forerunner" Narrative: A Literary Strategy¶
In Words Osho Never Finished Saying, Xuefeng writes in Osho's first-person voice, placing in Osho's mouth the admissions that: 1. He himself "has not fully awakened" and does not know where reincarnation leads 2. He is only a "pioneer" who has cleared obstacles and "opened a small path" toward Snow Peak 3. The path's end connects to "Xuefeng" — i.e., Lifechanyuan
This literary strategy integrates Osho into a linear upgrade framework — Forerunner → Xuefeng → Transcendence — establishing Lifechanyuan's hierarchical position relative to Osho.
IV. Systematic Critique of Osho's Meditation Methods¶
Xuefeng's 2012 essay provides a layered critique:
1. The definition is wrong
Osho defines meditation as "transcending the mind and entering an unknown dimension." Xuefeng finds this definition "erroneous and equivocal" — a flawed foundation yields inevitably flawed methods.
2. The methods are superficial
Practices such as awareness, observation, and breathing are characterized as "scratching the surface" — because Osho does not understand LIFE's principles or the nature of time and space, he can only enlighten, not guide.
3. Practical results are illusory
The existence of thousands of Osho meditation groups worldwide, reportedly with good results, is dismissed as an "ostrich mentality" — self-deception.
4. The root problem: absence of a life program
Real meditation cannot be separated from resolving real-life problems: food, clothing, shelter, transportation, aging, illness, and death. If these are not resolved, any meditation method is superficial. Lifechanyuan's solution is the Second Home — a structured living program — rather than technique-based practice alone.
V. Lacking a View of LIFE — The Final Verdict (2025)¶
Xuefeng's most recent and definitive statement on Osho appears in August 2025:
"I wrote an essay designating Osho as having come only as far as the foot of Snow Peak."
In Lifechanyuan's framework, a "view of LIFE" entails a complete understanding of LIFE's reincarnation, the levels of LIFE, the soul's ultimate destination, and the higher-dimensional spaces of the cosmos. Without this, a thinker can only address the present lifetime — providing what Xuefeng calls "shortsighted thinking" that cannot give humanity correct values or direction.
This places Osho alongside Confucius, Laozi, Plato, Newton, and other historically great thinkers who lacked a view of LIFE — affirming their excellence within the material/philosophical dimension while identifying the ultimate limitation.
VI. Sociological Dimension: The Rise and Fall of the Osho Wave¶
The 2021 essay provides a historical-sociological perspective: the wave of enthusiasm for Western spirituality and Osho peaked and then disappeared with remarkable speed. Xuefeng's diagnosis is structural rather than personal: the missing element was a program — a stable life structure that maintains the fruits of cultivation.
Lifechanyuan's solution (the Second Home, established in 2009) is explicitly contrasted: it created conditions in which "many farmers with only an elementary school education came to embody the qualities of sages and worthies." The difference was not greater spiritual effort but the presence of a supportive program.
VII. Osho Within the New Age Consciousness Coordinate System¶
Lifechanyuan situates Osho within its "New Age consciousness" framework, which encompasses Seth, Conversations with God, Krishnamurti, and others — classified broadly at the level of what Xuefeng calls "illusory thinking" (幻思维) in the eight-level thinking hierarchy, higher than conventional thinking but below Hundun thinking. These are categorized as "essence to be absorbed, dross to be discarded" in Lifechanyuan's program of integrating human wisdom.
