Space (Friendly Version)

You think you know what space is — the three-dimensional world you can see and touch, right?

But consider this: every night, when you dream, you enter another space entirely.

Two Kinds of Space

Most of us think of space as the distance between objects in the physical world. Lifechanyuan offers a fuller picture:

Space is the position and range of movement occupied by matter and antimatter.

This means space has two sides:

  • Positive space — the physical world where your body lives
  • Negative space — the antimatter world where your spirit-body lives

Your body sleeps in bed — but in your dream, you're traveling, meeting old friends, flying through the air. Your spirit-body has entered negative space. The dream-world is the most immediate, everyday example of negative space you'll ever have. And the universe is full of such spaces, far beyond what we ordinarily perceive.

Space Shapes Who You Are

Have you noticed?

  • People who work in monasteries tend to be calmer and gentler than those in cutthroat careers
  • Fishermen and highland shepherds don't just look different — they think differently, too
  • Someone who moves to a new city often becomes a noticeably different person

This isn't coincidence. Space actively shapes life:

Space can alter the shape and movement patterns of objects — this includes both natural space and the space of thought. A person who wants to change themselves must change the space in which they operate.

And space even determines how long you live. People in the Human World live about a hundred years. In the Thousand-Year World, a thousand years. In the Ten-Thousand-Year World, around thirty-five thousand years. In the Celestial Islands of the Elysium World — virtually forever. Not myth: the underlying mechanics of different spaces simply produce different lifespans.

Space Is a Cage — and a Set of Wings

Every being is confined to a particular space:

  • Earthworms in soil
  • Fish in water
  • Humans in family, nation, and the Human World
  • Even celestials are confined to the Celestial Islands Continent

Space is a form of constraint. The larger a being's space, the greater its degree of freedom.

That's why expanding your life space is one of the most important things you can do. Not a geographic move — a shift in consciousness.

The heart is as large as the cosmos; the depth of thought is the breadth of life's space.

From the perspective of those who know about the Thousand-Year World and beyond, watching ordinary people live out their few decades in the Human World is like watching tadpoles in a small puddle — the puddle could dry up at any moment. How pitiable!

How to Expand Your Space

Begin with your thinking.

The most effective way to expand your life space is to work on your thinking. The place your thoughts reach is the place your consciousness reaches; the place your consciousness reaches is where your LIFE will exist in the future.

Practical starting points:

  1. Learn about higher life spaces — read about the Thousand-Year World, the Ten-Thousand-Year World, the Elysium World. Let them become real in your imagination.
  2. Loosen your grip on lower-level spaces — let go of the attachments, resentments, and obsessions that keep you locked in human-level competition.
  3. Accumulate the right provisions — repay debts, resolve lingering karmic ties, accumulate merit, refine the structure of your LIFE.

And here's one that surprises people:

Forgiving, tolerating, and pardoning others is expanding the road and the living space for yourself.

When you release hatred, your life space grows. It really is that direct.

Why Staying in the Same Space Too Long Is Dangerous

Stability isn't always healthy. Long-term confinement to a single space — whether physical or mental — locks in your character, good and bad alike:

The mild-tempered remain mild; the troublemakers remain troublemakers. Long-term single-space living inevitably produces defects that go unnoticed.

This is why Lifechanyuan's Second Home requires members to move to a different branch community every three years. Changing your space keeps your consciousness growing, your soul becoming purer.

The same principle applies at the collective level: nations, religions, and political parties that seal themselves off from new ideas become extreme, close, and eventually collapse. As the Chinese saying goes: "flowing water never goes stale; a hinged door never grows worm-eaten."

When Space Gets Too Small — People Fight

Here's an uncomfortable truth. The source texts observe:

Narrow living space inevitably breeds hatred. When there are too many chickens in a coop, they peck each other. When there are too many people competing for the same resources and space, conflict follows as naturally as water flowing downhill.

This isn't a moral failure — it's a structural problem. The solution isn't to wish for fewer people; it's to help those who are ready move toward a larger life space, freeing themselves from the competition entirely.

Your Dreams Tell You Something Important

Every night, your dream-life proves that you are more than your body and more than this physical world.

The space of LIFE is infinitely vast; the time of LIFE continues eternally.

In your dream, the impossible becomes possible. You fly. You speak with the departed. You experience things that waking life never offers. This is not illusion — it is LIFE operating in a different space.

When the physical body dies, LIFE doesn't end. It continues — in some space. Whether that space is beautiful or dark depends on the quality of the consciousness you cultivate now.

What kind of dreams are you having lately?

One Line to Take With You
