What Is "Spirit," Really?¶

We use the word all the time — "team spirit," "she has real spirit," "I need a spiritual anchor." But in Lifechanyuan's framework, spirit (jingshen, 精神) is not a vague feeling. It has a precise definition:

"Spirit is the composite of jing (vital essence) and shen (animating power) — the pillar of the LIFE-body, the bridge and junction point through which matter and antimatter are interconnected and interact."

In other words, spirit is what connects the visible, material world to the invisible, antimatter world. It's the middle ground through which LIFE can ascend.

What is jing? The vital essence your body extracts from food — your energy, your stored vitality.

What is shen? The force that coordinates all your organs into harmonious operation (think of the invisible intelligence guiding a fertilized egg to become a complete human being), plus the force through which your soul resonates with the Negative Universe. Anything that is invisible, indescribable, and intangible yet genuinely influences you — that is shen.

A person without spirit will decline — not just physically, but in family and in everything they pursue. A person with cultivated spirit can ward off all ills, resist disease, and draw in the vital energy of heaven and earth.

Which World Do You Live In?¶

Lifechanyuan divides human existence into three worlds:

The Material World — striving for food, shelter, money, status, fame. One word: exhausted. This is where animals live.

The Spirit World — working for joy, happiness, freedom, and bliss. Two words: at ease. This is where people who truly understand life live.

The Soul World — giving selflessly for the sake of rapture and illumination. The feeling: light as air. This is where immortals, Buddhas, and angels live.

"Animals live in the material world; people live in the spirit world; immortals, Buddhas, and angels live in the soul world."

How do the numbers break down? Xuefeng has estimated: 98% of humanity lives in the material world; fewer than 2% live in the spirit world; perhaps only 1 in 10,000 lives in the soul world — what Shakyamuni called the "world of no-form."

The spirit world is not an elite achievement. It's the level a human being is supposed to inhabit — the layer where you've genuinely grasped the meaning of being human.

The Three Great Fortunes: Where Does Spirit Fit?¶

Lifechanyuan identifies three kinds of wealth to pursue in life, in this order:

Soul wealth → Spiritual wealth → Material wealth

The support flows both ways: - Material wealth supports spiritual wealth - Spiritual wealth supports soul wealth - Soul wealth generates spiritual wealth
- Spiritual wealth generates material wealth

What happens if you lack spiritual wealth?

"Without spiritual wealth, a person is simply an animal sustained by instinct, moving from place to place… they will be lonely, bored, and empty; unable to attain happiness; their psychology will become distorted; they will be repressed, irritable, prone to going to extremes."

And the relationship between soul and spirit is:

"The soul is the root; spirit is a kind of vitality that grows from that root. The quality of the soul determines the quality of the spirit."

Are You Living in the Spirit World? Six Indicators¶

Check these six signs:

One: You have a person (or a community) in your inner world whom you trust completely to help you through difficulty. You maintain abundant energy and no longer fear life's hardships.

Two: You believe deeply that karma is unfailingly precise, that nothing in the universe escapes accountability. You face difficulties and disasters with calm, without alarm.

Three: You've understood that human life is one journey of a LIFE through the world — and you are no longer weighed down by a house, a car, money, your parents, your children, your spouse.

Four: You've seen through life — whether great historical figures or the grand sweep of human history, it's all a kind of farce being performed — and so you live freely, serenely, and joyfully.

Five: You know the mysteries of LIFE and space-time; you know the Thousand-Year World, the Ten-Thousand-Year World, and the Celestial Islands Continent exist; your life's aim is the immortal realm.

Six: You have unwavering faith in the Greatest Creator.

How many of these fit you?

What Do Spirit-World People Actually Look Like?¶

People whose inner world is rich don't need to prove themselves through outward display. Those living in the spirit world:

Don't hoard gold, silver, or luxury goods
Don't care about brand names, luxury cars, or prestigious watches
Treat everyone as an equal
Welcome new ideas, new theories, new things with an open heart
Would rather endure loneliness than conform
Love reading the "wordless heavenly book"

And here's the surprising part: those who live in the spirit world actually enjoy more material comfort than those who chase material wealth. This is the secret behind why an immortal's quality of life exceeds that of an ordinary person.

"Whatever your faith is, that is what your spiritual state will be; whatever your spiritual state is, that is what your words and actions will be; whatever your words and actions are, that is what your life path will be."

Faith isn't a soft emotional dependency — it's the operating system of your spiritual life. Change your faith, and everything downstream changes.

One more gem:

"A person's spiritual state is at its best and their soul is at its most beautiful when they are in a state of joy."

How to Build Your Spirit: The Practice of Jing-Qi-Shen¶

Spirit can't be borrowed from anyone. It has to be grown from within. Lifechanyuan gives a very practical system:

Nourish jing (vital essence): Restrain sexual desire → jing stays full.

Nourish qi (vital breath): Eat simply, restrain anger, moderate consumption → qi flows freely.

Nourish shen (animating power): Speak less, think less, discipline the heart-nature → shen stays clear.

The all-in-one formula:

"Keep the kidneys undisturbed, and jing is complete; keep the body undisturbed, and qi is complete; keep the heart undisturbed, and shen is complete. When the three are round and the three are complete, one naturally becomes an immortal."

Another version:

"Restrain thinking, and shen is complete; restrain speech, and qi is complete; restrain sexual desire, and jing is complete."

Spiritual Nobility: The Highest Form of Life in the Human World¶

In Lifechanyuan, a "spiritual noble" is not someone with wealth or titles. It's:

One who is spiritually exalted, soulfully rich, unmanipulated by power, capital, cultural fashion, or social currents — independent, upright, free-spirited, and graceful.

And here's the striking definition of the opposite:

"The opposite of a noble is not a commoner but a beggar — anyone who seeks something from the outside world and in doing so tramples their own dignity, personality, freedom, and independence is a beggar."

The historical verdict:

"Material nobles and power nobles will not bring humanity freedom, peace, dignity, and happiness. Only spiritual nobles are the hope of humanity."

Where Does Spirit Ultimately Lead?¶

The spirit world is the goal for the human being — but it's not the final destination.

"If a LIFE has freed itself from both the bondage of matter and the bondage of spirit, and is living in the soul world — that being is a celestial immortal or a Buddha."

And if the spirit world itself gets turbulent? There's a remarkably free answer:

"Switch the scene at any time: if the material world is unbearable, switch to the spirit or soul world. If the spirit world is still assailed, live directly in the soul world — the soul world has nothing to do with other people and nothing to do with reality; it is your own boundlessly free inner world."

The full path: spirit fullness → soul flowering → Thousand-Year World, Ten-Thousand-Year World, Elysium World → Celestial Islands Continent — the Greatest Creator's back garden.

In a Single Sentence¶

Spirit is the bridge between matter and antimatter, the pillar of the LIFE-body, and the gateway to becoming fully human — cultivate it, become a spiritual noble, and the path to immortality opens naturally before you.
